How did you first get into surfing? What about the sport hooked you and made you want to pursue it?

My Dad has always been an avid surfer and was involved in the surf industry. He had me on a board as soon as I could walk. Surfing has always been part of my life and I can’t imagine life without it.

If you had to describe your personal surfing style in just a few words, what would it be? What aspects of your approach set you apart?

I always try to ride a wave with flow and grace. I think you can have all the tricks nailed but if you don’t have grace when linking them together then it will never look or feel right when you’re surfing the wave.

What does it mean to you to represent JBay Fin Design?

Representing Jbay Fin Design is like being part of a family. No matter what your outcome is when competing, they are always there cheering for you after your heat. The JBay Fin Design crew is a group of genuine people who revolve around the stoke of surfing.

What does the JBay Fin Design’s motto "Not just a fin, it's a feeling" mean to you?

The motto could not be more true. Every time you get in the water you are chasing that feeling of stoke.

Which fins do you ride and how do the fins you ride shape your overall experience in the water? Also, include which dimension surfboards you pair the fins with.

My favourite fin is the 9.75” Supers V1 which I ride on my 9’4” board shaped by Sam Christianson. They pair so well together and the fin is perfect for holding me in the pocket of the wave while I am nose-riding.

What are some of your favourite waves and surf spots around the world? Do you have a "home break" that holds a special place for you?

I grew up in Durban surfing the pier in town, it is hard to beat your home break. Another wave that holds a special place in my heart is Byron Bay in Australia which was the first time I surfed a longboard and fell in love with the sport and the logging culture, as I grew up only surfing a shortboard.

Outside of surfing, what are some of your other passions and hobbies?

I struggle to sit still so I have picked up a lot of different hobbies over the years haha. I also kitesurf, foil, run, paint, draw, sew, dive, do yoga and am currently studying architecture.

What's the craziest, funniest, or most unexpected thing that's happened to you during surfing so far?

Once a penguin climbed onto my board while I was waiting for a wave at the backline, that was pretty rad.

15. Who's the best surfer out there right now in your opinion? Describe their signature moves.

I’ve always looked up to Torren Martyn, the way he links up his turns and surfs such powerful waves with grace is incredible to watch.

What's the most "bro" thing you've ever witnessed in the backline or on the beach between competitors?

My friend Christy and I sometimes forget we’re in a heat together because we can’t stop chatting and usually end up catching a tandem wave in together.

Which breaks are still on your surfing bucket list to check off? What's one wave or destination that didn't quite live up to the hype for you?

Definitely on my bucket list of surf spots is a visit to the Maldives and Philippines. I think that a lot of the breaks along the sunshine coast in Australia are overrated, purely because the amount of people in the water makes it almost impossible to get a wave.
